BBQ
I am glad that Gretchen is taking the initiative to organise a class outing... Thanks Gretchen! A few things that I want you to take note of....
1) Please inform your parents that this bbq is organised by the students in the class, not by the school, not by teachers. You may laugh but I really don't want parents calling up the school asking about the whereabouts of their children (this has happened!). We teachers are there as guests, not organisers.
2) The weather... The rainy season is going to start soon (or have already started judging from the heavy rain yesterday evening) so I suggest you do it fast! Why don't you have it after your leap programme, say next Friday? Then you all can just go back, change and head to the bbq pits??? And do check the weather forecast!
3) You can also start buying stuffs about 2 days before and divide the stuffs so each person carries something. I don't want just a few people to be burdened with carrying the stuffs and some just walk there leisurely without lifting a finger!!! You must work as a team people!!
4) Do let me know if you need anything and I can bring them. I can bring food too, say noodles, and the rest can prepare the bbq stuffs... I also have a big canvas sheet for us to sit on, really big one!! lol
5) Some people are asking if they can bring friends.... I'm afraid that my answer would be NO. Judging from past experiences, a lot of unhappiness arise from such an issue. Here are some of the things... If you bring a friend, you have to entertain your friends because they would feel left out, so you then tend to ignore your classmates. The classmates would not be happy. If one brings a friend, the rest would want too and then you have a big group of people and some don't know each other and you can't really have fun and bond... remember, this is a class outing! And then if a lot of people bring friends, you don't have enough food... And then there's issue of money also, do they have to pay? And the list of unhappiness goes on......
Let me tell you again, a lot of unhappiness will arise so no friends ok. You can meet your friends after the bbq but I think let's just be fair to everybody. Gretchen, please take note of this. Tell the class that that no outsiders are allowed. Regretfully, if they come, they will be asked to leave.
6) I have a pretty packed schedule this holiday. I can't make it on the 11th Nov because I have a CCA outing. From the 16th Nov to 2nd Dec I have staff workshop and GCE O level marking so I can't make it on those dates also. But seriously, if you have a date where most classmates can go and myself and Mdm Chin can't, it's ok. Just go ahead with it alright. We don't mind and we will still contribute in any way we can even if we don't go.
7) Make sure that there are game organisers to make the outing fun. If not, you will see groups of people sitting far away from each other and not mingling. So do organise group activities so that you can bond.
And people do have lots and lots of fun!!!!!! Respect each other, work as a team and mingle with everybody... You need these to make the outing a success!
